So, is this song being played in the States? It's on heavy rotation in South Africa, and I can see from http://top40-charts.com that it is in Europe, too.

The rotation is heavy enough that it's nearly made me sick of the song, but the song is good enough that it hasn't *quite* happened.

(I saw a question on one of the bulletin boards as to whether the new Dido album was out in the US yet.)

"And when we meet
Which I'm sure we will
All that was then
Will be there still
I'll let it pass
And hold my tongue
And you will think
That I've moved on...."

Yep it's being played over here. It was even on a tv show last week by the name of 'Smallville'.

Yeh. The video stars David Boreanaz of TV's Angel and can be viewed on Rollingstone.com.

I'm very confused by the video. I posted on it about a week ago.

I just read your posting about it and am now also confused, although that's partly because I don't know the backstory you're referring to. If you have time I'd be interested in hearing it.

However, it did strike me that the video was deliberately undercutting the sentiment of the song. Not unusual for music videos, really, but in this case it really seems to reduce the impact. I thought the video was technically well done, but conceptually wrong.

(One simply can't escape MTV. Riga, Latvia. Johannesburg, South Africa. Luang Prabang, Laos. Doesn't matter. It's still on the TV.)

I agree -- I wasn't sure what they were going for, and the only thing I could come up with -- her stalwart love, analogized with his creepy obsession -- was upsetting to say the least. So, background:

The hair issue. I was complaining to [livejournal.com profile] oelker about David Boreanaz' hair on the Angel premiere -- it was a little long and slicked down. She speculated that he'd grown it out for the video. Whatever -- I miss his spiky hair. (Pun intended)

The icon. I'm friends online with a lot of Smallville fans, and one of them, [livejournal.com profile] lexalot, has an icon with a picture of Chloe, a character who had a crush on Clark for a very long time, with the line "there will be no white flag above my door." Very appropriate for the character, a tenacious reporter for the high school paper who investigates "meteor mutants" but has yet to discover her friend's secret.

And finally, its use on Smallville. At the end of the premiere episode, Clark breaks up with Lana. Many of us cheered because (a) she's completely whiny and annoying, and (b) we're a bunch of dirty slashers who think Clark should be with Lex (and Lana should be with Chloe). This scene also happened right after the reunion between Lex and Clark, who hadn't seen each other for three months, and there was a lot of hugging (and romance!). [livejournal.com profile] coffeejunkii made this icon for me and it pretty much summarizes what we all thought Clark should have said; enter the song, though, and she becomes some sort of noble, strong character carrying a torch for him no matter what. So you can see why I would be annoyed.

Does this all make sense? I hope so.

Yes, it makes a fair bit of sense now. I mean, I don't watch Smallville, but I understand as well as anyone can who doesn't watch it.

Thanks!

It's in rotation on Alice, at least. Quite like it, too.
