...and how often do the Lunar New Year and Ash Wednesday coincide, anyway?

(Mardi Gras followed immediately by Chinese New Year, woo-hoo!)

That's an interesting question. They're both based upon lunar cycles to an extent, so theoretically one should be able to calculate it. Hmm, seems like I have myself a project for the next few hours.

But this brings up another interesting question. What is a Chinese Christian supposed to do on a day like today: feast or fast?

Feast, of course. When you look at it carefully, the Christian fast is a really lame fast -what with the fish loophole and all. No meat but fish? Good gravy, do you know how open the menu would be? I mean yeah, in an American diet of some breaded cod sandwich, this might seem limiting but not with Asian menu choices. Yum!

Seriously, I think you have hit it exactly:

A Chinese Christian would probably observe the fast by not eating meat, but that leaves one lots of options for an interesting Chinese New Year feast.

Speaking of which, when should I come find you?
