That's because women are taught (subliminally or on purpose) that their job is to be next to a man. Maybe that's changing these days. . . women have confidence issues.

Away from the point, that's one of the reasons I like songs from guys that are like, "I'll help you get over the shit you've been through" like John Mayer's Daughters (which my housemate thinks is more like "...so I can get in your pants" but I'm not buying it).

To be fair, there's also a lot of "this girl makes my life hell, but I worship the ground she walks on anyway" songs.

And a few "you're a jerk, and I'm finally LEAVING" songs for both genders. :)
