A stroll along the beach.
Jun. 14th, 2005 01:44 amWe ended up visiting Revere Beach and stopping for a snack at Kelly's Roast Beef, taking a walk at ankle depth for a while along the beach. Then we drove up to Nahant and toured the neighborhoods on Nahant and Little Nahant, looking at houses. Finally we wandered for a while along Nahant Beach.
There were quite a few people out, though it wasn't by any stretch of the imagination crowded. We saw a mix of ethnicities--not a surprise, on the Revere/Lynn bit of the coast--which was nice. (I'd remembered that
As a beach, Nahant Beach is much nicer than Revere Beach. The smell of the roses in the hedgerow hangs in the air as you walk past them to the water. But we liked walking along them both.
We drove back from Nahant through a neighborhood in Lynn that was alternately Khmer and Hispanic. We passed a place that advertised Cuban sandwiches. It looked interesting, but neither of us were hungry. I also thought aloud that no one would go try them even if I wrote them up, because they were in Lynn.
We stopped by the fabric store to pick up patterns so we could make Hawaiian shirts for
Finally, we got home well after dark, fully intending to call

Yum. We had those today, minus the getting ill part. :)

Date: 2005-06-14 06:45 am (UTC)Sure, that'd be fun! There's a lot of interesting local food around, btw. I meant to tell you; there are a few places walking distance from your studio. Have you tried them?
Tomorrow is no good for me either, and I was initially intending to go back down to CT and NY midweek. However, I'll let you know if that changes.
We have lots of catching up to do!

Date: 2005-06-14 03:12 pm (UTC)one? i'm pretty sure *all* the major pattern makers do this. it never fails to entertain me.
by the way, there are also Titanic costumes, Shakespeare in Love costumes and Chicago costumes, just to name a few -- oh, and who could forget Harry Potter! what really amuses me are the models they get, who all look like distorted, less attractive versions of the actors whose costumes the patterns imitate...
hmm. i think i spend too much time in fabric stores...
also, why do the pattern makers think that only women are interested in medieval garb? for every men's pattern there are 4 or 5 women's. grrr. (as a woman this is not so much my problem, but it makes it harder to make garb for friends...)

Date: 2005-06-14 08:18 pm (UTC)True enough; I only found them in the one I looked at, so I didn't want to claim more knowledge than I actually had. :)

I don't know...is that possible? Various friends don't think so. :)

Sympathy. We were looking for shirt patterns suitable for men. This was a minor challenge, though it didn't take too long for us to find one.
