Groceries seem cheaper here in Germany than in the UK.

I just got three bags of groceries and paid less than €19. Maybe it was because I was in London, but my suspicion is that £13 simply wouldn't go that far.

For that matter, I feel like it's on the high side of what I'd get for $23 back home. There were a bunch of cold cuts and stuff.

I'm not surprised. I've heard tell that groceries in Manhattan and Tokyo cost less than groceries in London... (-:

That sounds right to me.

I'm not surprised, really. I was actually a bit surprised at the difference in cost between groceries in Germany and in Sweden, which has the highest grocery prices in the EU.

That's also not surprising. Shopping in Sweden is really expensive.

It may still be cheaper than in the UK, though.

I haven't really compared intensively, but according to all of the studies I've read, Sweden is more expensive than the UK.

Oh, I believe you. I haven't been in Sweden in some years, and that was when the exchange rate was significantly better for dollars than it is now.

However, the sticker shock on arriving in the UK this time was quite striking.

London is not typical of the UK, if that helps. (Of course, I lived in Dundee, which was not exactly the sticks, but you could see the sticks from there.)

Indeed.

(There are many people in and out of London who think that's a good thing... :) )

you could see the sticks from there.

I know what you mean. :)
