In our never-ending search for offbeat food articles, we bring you http://www.exile.ru/2006-April-21/feature_story.html:

Indeed, nothing says Russian food like mayonnaise, where literally everything that doesn't have sugar as its main ingredient is subject to mayonnaisification. It transcends the role of condiment, often acting as the main flavor in Russian concoctions. Here at the eXile, we decided to explore Russia's obsession with mayonnaise, by going to the heart of the machine: a mayonnaise factory in Moscow.

Russians too? Damn. I like mayo.

Hungry now.

p.s:I just realised that mangosteens are one of the few fruits left that are highly seasonal, and we're hitting the tail end of it.

Sad.

And here I thought it was the Dutch who REALLY loved mayonaise.

Oh, and clearly they haven't discovered the 1950's cherry jello mold of my grandmother's that involves a mayonaise sauce on the side. That would have BOTH sugar AND mayonaise...it would make them so VERY happy.

Damn, that's too bad, because I like Russian food, but I don't actually like mayo much.

Hell, I even like kvass! At least they haven't put mayonnaise in THAT.

Yet.

I hope.

Great. Now you have occupied several of my neurons with the word "mayonnaisification".

Alright people, let me alert you to an oft ignored mayonnaise fact: Mayonnaise is not a part of Russian cuisine. It is not a part of Japanese cuisine. I don't know where it came from, but I'm betting an evil plot from the same people who brought us Opium the in-home movie maker, Crack the cheap joy and Heroin the diet of super models. These fiends have finally developed the sneaky white lady that will make her way irreversibly into all our lives, mayonnaise. Remember just say no to mayo.
