Interesting. I think you might want to add in a modifier for length of silence. For instance, I think a conversation with frequent short significant silences is more subtle than a conversation with frequent long, heavy significant silences.

Indeed, one of the previous drafts of this post talked about both quantity and import. But I really wanted to get it down to something concise. My other attempts seemed awkward.
