...because if I didn't, I'd probably have seen the Perseids when I went for a walk an hour ago.

(I really didn't expect to be awake now.)

Are you ok?

I am. Thanks for asking.

I got involved in a couple of separate IM conversations--they're always slower than RL, alas--and by the time those ended it was an absurdly late hour.

I know why I'm up. It's because I had a dream where I heard the "incoming SMS" sound from my cellphone. As I'm on-call, this meant waking up immediately, noticing that my phone didn't go off, and realizing that I'm not getting back to sleep for the next couple of hours due to the resultant adrenaline buzz.

I'm trying to finish an editing project that I had no time to do over the weekend because of needing to work shifts at the comic shop plus exhaustion.

Why are you up?

Short answer: long IM conversations with friends far away.

Are you generally up late nights?

Should I try you in the evenings instead of what I've been doing?

Were they last night?

I saw one really bright one on my way home from Pittsfield last night!

They peaked last night, but there should still be some left tonight, and possibly tomorrow night.

I need to get out of the light pollution, though, to see anything, but I don't know that I can.

What was in Pittsfield?

You sure about your land?

'Cuz I'm in El Lay, where there's a heck of a lot of light pollution as well, and I caught a pretty amazing meteorite streak in my peripheral vision from the rooftop of a club last night.

You must have been shooting-star-crossed.

Hopefully, you'll be in the right place at the right time to catch the Aurigids on Sept. 1st. I've been told the North American West Coast will be the optimal viewing location for it. Come visit!

Apparently I live in the single most densely populated city in New England. (I've heard people say it's the most densely populated city in America, but I'm not sure that's true, so I'll only lay claim to New England.)

But yes, no Perseids for me.

Alas, I have a wedding September 1st. But thanks for the invitation! I'll be out one of these days.

I checked the census data at one point, can't remember if it was 1990 or 2000, but I seem to remember that s'ville ranked fourth most dense for the nation in its weight class (municipalities in the 100k range).

Yay! It's been way too long since I've seen you, so I look forward to seeing you one of these days.

I simply must to introduce you to people here... otherwise, how are we to increase the ever-growing circle of People-Who-Know-Leon? &;)

Oh darn!

I completely forgot about the Perseids. Sometimes if I remember in time I'll try to drive out and catch a glimpse in a darker area.

That is the single thing I miss the most about being out at sea--the constant company of the stars. I've even seen the Southern Cross and Polaris in the same sky. Shaula was my favorite, though, because she was caught in our mainm'st for most of the southern trip and was at our backs as we headed north again.

(Hope you got to sleep eventually.)

I understand that there might be some tonight, but fewer than last night, if you have a chance to look.

(Hope you got to sleep eventually.)

I did, thanks!

(Also, I talked to [livejournal.com profile] faithstattoo about the lot of us getting together sometime and she was totally up for it.)
