Mar. 5th, 2008 04:05 pmI'm posting this from the trade show venue, the Passenger Terminal Amsterdam. (I guess this is where the cruise ships dock in other, warmer seasons.)
Just a quick hello.

Date: 2008-03-05 04:17 pm (UTC)I took different ferry companies in each direction Helsinki->Tallinn and Tallinn->Helsinki. (I wanted to try different companies to see how the services differed. This was a great thing on the Stockholm-Helsinki run, as the Finnish Silja Line ferry has *hot tubs*. Mmmm, hot tubs.
Anyway, the little ferry I took over from Helsinki was small, but fast, and docked right at a pier somewhere away from the main terminal. On the way back to Finland I took some big ferry and boarded at the terminal. The terminal itself looked like a piece of Finland someone had dropped into the port area in Tallinn.
So, getting back to the original comparison: I think the Tallinn Ferry Port is more of a place where big passenger ferries dock; lots of throughput, lots of Scandinavian efficiency. As I said, it looks like someone had simply moved in a piece of Finland.
The Passenger Terminal Amsterdam is more of a cruise ship terminal. I haven't actually been in the one in Manhattan, but I'm imagining it's more like that. It's big, carpeted, and designed for people who can afford to take cruises.
*many hugs* :)
