Ugg boots.

Maybe it was that it was slightly warmer--50s Fahrenheit rather than 40s--but no one was wearing Ugg boots in any of the parts of Europe I visited. That, or they have gone entirely out of style there, if they were ever in style there at all. I tend to think the latter, because there were plenty of people wearing boots, just not Ugg boots.

I noticed this because when I got back to the States, I started seeing them again.

FWIW I saw significantly fewer Ugg boots around campus this year than last, so it seems they're definitely past their prime as a fad here. (Thank goodness, because I just do not like them.)

Uggs seem to only be getting more and more commonplace in southern california.
At a local news website, someone posted a picture they took of a junior high school hallway from about knee height downwarnds and it was a sea of Uggs and jeans.
I actually never associated them with fashion trends outside of coastal surfing areas, since they were contemporarily popularized by Australian surfers. I first started seeing them in SoCal worn by surfers, too. They will probably never leave my town, since Ugg the brand is now owned by Deckers, a Santa Barbara company. :)

ugh, Ugg

I wish I'd been there. SFSU's campus is still infested with Uggs and their wearers. Other boots, too, any and all of which are more attractive than the Uggs. A friend says the Ugg trend is about the "covered-up-parts adjacent to exposed-parts" sexiness thing, but you know, those boots just don't say "sex" to me, nor do the shins and knees and bodies above them. And all the other boots would accomplish the same thing.

This is one of those "I just don't get it" trends that makes me acknowledge the generation gap. I don't feel "old" as in "elderly," but I do feel "old" as in "not a part of or able to grasp youth trends."

I used to wear big ugly boots, but I never pretended they were anything other than big and ugly. I was one of the few kids in my high school whose "Bean boots" (you know, rubber on the bottom and leather on the top) were actually worn out of necessity (working with horses), and thus had actual dirt on them. For others, they were a fashion thing, I guess. *shrug*

Yeah, I personally think they are hideous, and they make the people who wear them look like they have giant feet. Can't wait for this trend to go away.

"at Cadwalader Wickersham & Taft, associates who wore their Ugg boots all day allegedly received a note reminding them to "change out of their snow boots" after they arrived at the office."
from a USF law library blog post here: http://ziefbrief.typepad.com/ziefbrief/2008/01/memo-to-associa.html

the Uggs are everywhere here on Long Island, including the Hofstra U. campus and law school.

I guess when you spend so much money on some damn ugly boots, you tend to wear them as much as possible, if only to get your money's worth.

I mean, they are called "uggs" for a reason....because they're ug-ly. However as hideous as they are, they (sheepskin lined boots) are the only thing that will keep my feel warm in the depths of a New England winter. And when I realized that a few years ago, my soul died a little bit. Mine are made by Simple (http://www.simpleshoes.com/index.aspx) so I feel not as bad about it.
