Heh. Well, yeah - if they had a sane method of collecting property taxes, instead of their insane Proposition (plz 2 tax someone else) system, they'd have more income!
...which they'd probably spend on grants for interpretive dance, but still.
I don't get mine til the last go-around, sometime in July I think. The last 2 numbers of my SS# are over 90. I'll likely bank it and eventually use it to pay bills.
I suppose now that we've moved out of our apartment and have some time before escrow closes, I can unearth my paperwork and do my taxes. Yay for extension filing (and for CPA fathers who take care of that for you when moving is too stressful to do it yourself)!
The last time the Dub-Shrub gave me a golden shower, I invested it locally. I was living in the Seattle area at the time, and $300 was pretty much the cost of a brand new XBox... so Microsoft and I both got stimulated. I still do each time I play it. That is what the vibrate feature on the controllers is for, right? &;)
I'd like to do something similar this time around (and find it amusingly appropriate to buy a Wii with this golden shower), but that will Depends depend on the availability of Nintendo's latest electronic crack box and our new monthly budget + mortgage.
Like the rest of my income, it'll probably get split up into checking, savings, long-term-savings, and charity.
Thanks for asking - I think I'll do the same on my LiveJournal and see what responses it elicits!
I'm torn between putting it into the house downpayment savings fund or to paying back my student loans.
I had the foresight to go to a business school with a very generous loan forgiveness program for students who work for non-profits. That has beefed up my savings pretty well, so I tend to think that making an extra payment towards my highest interest loan (which is higher than anything I could earn on a CD at this point) makes the most sense. On the other hand, buying a house in the next 6 months to a year may make sense. On the other foot, I'm not sure whether it makes sense to buy a condo now for my single life or wait until I hopefully-maybe-someday want to start a family. Oh the joys of indescision!
My suspicion is that you have more than 6 to 12 months to take advantage of the dip in the real estate market. I'm not sure we'll even see prices stop falling by then, business media cheerleaders notwithstanding.

Date: 2008-05-12 05:53 pm (UTC)Fuck you, AMT. Fuck you in your indolent, non-inflation-adjusting ass.
Also; Fuck you, State of California for your inability to balance a budget despite the highest property prices in the nation and a 9% income tax.
