Are you sure? I'm sure they had plenty of horse-drawn vehicles to drive...or were women not allowed to drive them in her time?

I'm not sure whether she would have been allowed to drive. She would have been allowed to ride horses, though.

She did have a donkey cart or some such when she lived at Chawton Cottage -- they have it as part of the museum displays there. From her letters though it sounds as if she preferred walking. Loved your post! *hug*

Carriage driving was a big sport at that time (since functional roads were still an exciting novelty), done by both men and women for fun, though mostly by the former, of course.
