Believe it or not, I have made it to 2016 without a comprehensive password management solution. This has to stop. In fact, I have made it my New Year's resolution.

So, does anyone have a recommendation for password management on Android/Linux? I go to (as S put it) relatively high-risk destinations but I use a VPN when I do so. (I blame a dodgy public computer at a hostel in Nantucket for subjecting my friend list to email spam, so I carry my own netbook everywhere now.)

I have an Android phone and a Chromebook that I use as my primary travel devices. I use them extensively for communication. (Current open apps and windows include: Whatsapp, Twitter, my phone's SMS client, Facebook, dreamwidth, LiveJournal, Google+, ello, Yahoo! mail, and probably some others I've forgotten.)

I also do travel bookings using the netbook. I also use the smartphone for transit navigation extensively, but that doesn't require my logging in.

I do some financial transactions now and again, but only over the VPN.

Any suggestions very welcome.

I use passwordsafe and I like it. I don't know if they have an android client but I'd be surprised if there wasn't. I use it on windows and linux and mac (well, on mac I use "password gorilla", which understands the pwsafe file format).

The only challenge is file management. Besides copies on my various computers, I generally keep a copy of the file on a couple of different thumb drives along with a copy of the program, and then manually sync the file around a couple of times a year.

I use KeePassX under Linux and KeePassDroid on my phone, using Dropbox to sync the database (kludgily).

I use (and like) LastPass under Android, Mac OS, and Windows, but I do not know its Linux status; You'd have to check. In Android, I tend to turn off all of its integration and use it manually, but that may be because I use Opera for my browser and it integrates a bit poorly with Opera on Android. I do not know if it does better with Chrome / "Browser" / whatever. But there is a client and you can either use it manually or have it integrate with your browser, and the client itself can also be used as a browser.

I use LastPass on Android and anything that can run Chrome (OSX, Linux, probably Windows if I ever needed to). Not perfect - there's always a bit of weird magic around form autofills and password changes - but solidly pretty good.

I use a hideously long Diceware password as my master password for it, which was a smarter idea before I started using it on a mobile device.

I've been happy with 1Password on Mac and iPhone. It looks like they have a version for Android, and people have gotten it to work on Chromebooks, but I have no experience with those versions.

Diceware has been a huge help for passwords that I actually do have to memorize.
