Yeah, the problem is that it's always easier to see clearly from an external perspective, when you're not all muddled up by the emotional content of the situation.
I don't think I'm any better than anyone else at taking advice--although I will say in my defense that I rarely ask for it--but I am an old hand at learning from other people's experience. The benefit of having two older sisters, I suppose :)

Well, I ask for other people's input and perspective, which I find very useful. But I rarely say "well, what should I do?" unless I'm pretty open to following their advice.

That makes sense; sometimes I actually do want to know what they'd do, to see how that differs from what I'd do, but there is this sense in which you both feel like you have to follow that advice once it's been solicited.
